Gun Hed

Gunhed was a realy good looking overhead shooter for the PC Engine, I think over here it was called Blazing Lazers, but anyways this is Gunhed for Famicom.

First of all what the heck is this? This is not the gunhed I remembered, oh wait this one is made by Varie, and this game nothing to do with the PC engine version, only the name.

First of all You begin the game choosing a name for either 1 player, or 4 players.

Then this map comes up with a bunch of dots, which I think represent soldiers, pressing b brings you to terrain screen where it displays your robot or whatever youre driving. The next part looks like some sort of a strategy RPG, but i did'nt play it any further since since I was already dissapointed that this is not a shooter type game.

anyways back to the basement you go.

Dragon Quest 3 Gamebook

Dragon Quest 3 Gamebooks:

First of all a gamebook is like an choose your own adventure, where you read a paragraph, then you are given various options, that look similar to this:
"You arrive at a Junction in the forest, do you wish to proceed to the left Junction(turn to 352) or the right Junction(turn to 45), on the other had do you want to rest by a tree(turn to 12)?"

Anyways about the Dragon Quest books, they were published by Exix library(エニックス文庫), and are based on the Dragon Quest 3 universe, when you begin, you have a set amount of HP, Experience, Level, Offencive Strenght, defence Power, and gold. During the game you will sometimes receive Shields and Weapons, which will increase those stats as long you have the weapon equiped.

Sometimes you find yourself in a town where you can buy items such as Herbs,Potions, swords and armor, or you can stay at an inn to recover some HP.

Speaking of Hp, you lose HP everytime you fight a monster, and in this gamebook the battles are 1 on 1, you and a monster, both of you take turns fighting,I am not totally sure how the battles progress, but I think you compare your defence ratings with the monsters attack power, if your's is lower you get dealt damage.

If you win you can continue on, otherwise you die and have to start from the begining or from the page that has this symbol "冒"

Even though this gamebook has 3 books, you dont need to play all of them, but you will not get to see the good ending, in which you return back to the upper world.

If you don't know japanese stay away! go instead read some Fighting Fantasy Gamebooks such as Sorcery! which are similar to this book. If you know a little Japanese and have never played a gamebook before, this is an easy and a good read, otherwise buy it only if youre a fan of Dragon Quest.

Btw these books are now out of print and are hard to find!

First Sports game ever released for the Famicom

Found this pile o' crap in a warehouse:
it was like the first sports game for the nes, released way back in 1985, it was a preaty good effort, but it was too simplistic, I probably could recreate this game in Visual Basic.
